The Colvend Coast in which Kippford and Rosemount are located is an area designated of 'outstanding scenic beauty' and is well known from Victorian days as the Scottish Riviera due to the mild Gulf Stream drift enjoyed by its location.

We have detailed here firstly our favourite walks within the immediate location of Rosemount and Kippford as well as cycling. Please also visit our Guest picture gallery to view photographs taken of Kippford throughout seasons and of Rosemount taken close to and from across the estuary at Palnackie (special thanks to Peter Thornley who supplied us with many of the superb pictures).

Walking

The area is renowned for its many coastal and rural walks, also near by car is the beautiful Galloway forest that has many walks and viewpoints. We have walking guides available in our Tourist information area and guests are welcome to borrow the guides for days out.

For our younger guests

The walk from Kippford to Rockcliffe on the lower path via Rough Firth takes you past Bengairn, which is a house occupied by a resident artist who has made many fascinating visual displays that children love. The shell beach at the end of this road is also a lovely place for children to run and enjoy the outdoor air.

For those hot days of summer you can't do better than Sandyhills beach. It's a short 10-minute drive with a superb sandy beach which is also great for flying kites!). For the occasional rainy day a visit to the Art Café at Dalton is a must where children can make and keep their own pottery. It also has a great café for Mums, Dads and Grandparents! Mabie Farm Park is well worth a visit, and you can't go home without visiting Cream O'Galloway (makers of delicious ice cream but also with a play area and over 2 miles of nature walks).

Eating out

Kippford has two pubs in the village, both a very short stroll from Rosemount, so there are no worries about driving; you can relax and enjoy a wee dram! Both serve good pub food and one has a selection of local real ales. We also keep a detailed file on places to eat in the area from relaxed and informal to fine dining for special occasions. We are happy to book any tables that guests may wish and arrange taxis to and from the venue.

These are just a taster of what Kippford and the surrounding area has to offer and for those simply wanting to relax you couldn't go anywhere better than Rosemount, Kippford, with our superb location and views.
